York Show Report & Rockvilla Goods Next Outing

Milton Street MPD's first outing south of the border was all-in all, a success.  The layout performed well with a couple of problems that were soon sorted.  The first of these was the most simple to remedy - the wiring on the new board which had been connected to the turntable board was soldered to a piece of track that wasn't wired in to the main circuit!!!  A couple of wires looped in to the main circuit sorted that out!

Next was the turntable, we have always had problems of one sort or the other with the turntable, most seriously the gearing jamming up due to loose grit either in the gears or the gear race in the turntable well. Apart from 1 instance of this during set-up, this never reared its head, however, we found that the preset auto-stops regularly lost its registration so we decided to clear the presets and line up the turntable deck by eye - this gets easier as you get used to it!

Lastly the point controlling access to the coaling stage was playing up and steadfastly refused to change on the sunday afternoon we resorted to flicking the motor by hand.  We'll get this fixed for the next outing at the Falkirk Model Railway Show on November 29th & 30th this year.

A few loco's were running a bit jerky but we reckon this is down to lack of use.  A programme of letting the loco's run on a rolling road for a good will will hopefully loosen things up a bit.

The York & District show itself was fantastic, great quality layouts, great venue & refreshments, wonderful hosts & accommodation only 10 mins walk from York city centre!  We thoroughly recommend The Abbingdon Guest House for a base if staying in York.

Rockvilla Goods is next on show at the Bonnybridge MRC show on 4th & 5th October 2014, last minute preparations are being carried out to get the layout ready for this exhibition.
